Just a quick note to say I've bagged this number for my next album. I've got so much unreleased stuff knocking around it only seems reasonable to get some of it out there. It'll be a free download - look out for it in the next week or so.

Coming in the next few days, a 25-year old musical oddity that as yet remains unattributed to any artist. The strongest rumour is that it was by an "Unknown Top-Ten Artist" here in the UK. Some say Captain Sensible, some say Tony Hawks (the comedian and travel writer that is, not Tony Hawk the pro-skateboarder), some say the "Top-Ten" bit's a red herring…

The MP3, weighing in at 4:39 and around 10mb, will be accompanied by a minisite dedicated to finding out who was responsible for this obscene piece of smooth jazz from 1984. I figure a good way of finding out who's responsible is to release it myself and wait for someone to claim copyright. It's certainly worth a shot.

The release will also contain artwork and instructions on how to make (and distribute) your own CD-R singles, so you can join in on the mystery.

(Some of you may have heard me play this during sound checks at Mixo gigs in the past…)

do we still need to rule stating that swearing is verboten? i know that i for one swear like a retarded sailor, and noone has ever threatened to ban us.

anyways, i suggest we eliminate that disclaimer. assuming we don't start piling expletives and pictures of diseased genitalia in our posts, i think we'll be fine. as it stands, the "no swearing" rule makes us look like quakers or something.

just a thought…

I made a comment in Mixo's 8-track thread about doing some split CD-rs and said there that I'd start a thread about it when I had the chance to think about it some more. Well, I haven't really got too much in concrete yet, but I'm going to start the thread in any case.

Basically, it would be fairly cheap for us to put out CD-rs, either as collaborations or splits to spread the expense. The costs would be pretty low. I know I can get 50 run off in plastic sleeves with a single sided insert for about £60. If you wanted to do the artwork yourselves, or work out some packaging, then the cost would be even lower. I've also got a lightscribe-enabled laptop so I could burn off the CDs myself and print them as well, reducing costs even more. Or failing that, I could always use the old underground stand-by of spray-painting them, although I've heard rumours that the paint can eat into the CD and render them unplayable.

(At this point, I will insert the disclaimer that, although my laptop is lightscribe-enabled, I don't have any software to run it and I don't know how much it will cost, if anything. There is also the small matter of each CD taking about 20 minutes to burn)

So, is there any interest in this or has anybody anything to add?

Along with a brand new EP to be released on another label in the not too distant future, I'm delighted to announce that after tough negotiations with both enigmatic lead singer Sebastian Falkstaff and band manager, impresario, raconteur and shit Tony Swain, Digital Vomit is set to release a collection of remixes of their 2007 single on V/Vm Test, 'Love Dictator'.

Next week I will be obtaining the much sought-after vocal tracks from the single, and these will be made available for free download for YOU to remix and twist into aural slices of electrock heaven, along with full instructions on where to send them (either to Bubblegunner or, more likely, to me). The finest remixes will be appearing on the compilation, along with a copy of the video you see above this very text, and will be available as a bonus free download to anyone purchasing the original VVMT666 7" single at what I can assure you will be a very reasonable price.
I've finally completed a new mix for WEPLAYMUSIC. It's a mix of skippy techno with odd off-beat beats, warm melodies and a general chunky glitched-up vibe. I've been struggling for a while to think of a term that describes a macro-glitch, if you see what I mean, I used to say "Fidget" but that's a while other genre these days, so I've called this mix "Hopscotch" because that seems to sum up the type of beat involved.

Anyway, hope you enjoy it, you can listen to it here:
Mattie Twentythree - Hopscotch

1) DVR062 will be a physical format compilation. I'm sure the more regular visitors amongst you will know which format I am referring to, but to those who don't, it's the humble 8-track tape. It is currently untitled.
2) This will be expensive to produce. So expensive, I can't do it unless I fill the pre-orders. Basically the costs of making anything up to 100 of these tapes (brand new mind you - not just store-bought blank tapes but brand new ones, manufactured specifically) would mean a "retail" price of at least £20. That would buy you at the absolute minimum a copy of the product, a FLAC or MP3 copy (your choice) of the entire comp via email, and P+P. I still need to figure out some additional extras to offer people, particularly as the format itself is not the most widely-used any more, so there's a high chance people may buy this purely for the digital copy and the extras.
3) I am not looking for track submissions. For want of a better term, this is my baby, and I'm keeping control of that side of the project. Rest assured, these will be quality musicians and songwriters, many of whom will be making their first appearance on Digital Vomit with exclusive tracks.

Yes, this is a vanity project, but it's one I'm very interested to see completed. If you want a point of reference, this is basically the same issue that V/Vm had getting projects like Theoretically Pure… and There Was A Fish… into a physical format. The pre-orders will fund the entire project, with really minimal profit going my way. We are talking something like the equivalent of a fairly average night out in London. I'd like to guage interest in who would be interested in buying this, so if you are, either reply here or email me at lee.ashcroft hat hotmail.co.uk with DVR062 in the subject line. I'm hoping to have a list of artists on board set in stone at the very least within the next month or so, so maybe you'll want to wait until then. Like I say though, the ones I have lined up are fantastic.

Why 8-track? In lieu of a real answer, I would urge you to track down the film So Wrong They're Right if you can (if you're in the UK, it's on Sky Arts 1 every so often). The love and affection these tapes have amongst an admittedly small percentage of music lovers is, to my mind, incomparable to any other format, even vinyl, and this is obvious in the film. As Cheap Trick have proved, there is still a demand for 8-track tapes, despite their technical drawbacks. Maybe not amongst you guys (particularly those outside America), but there undoubtedly is somewhere. And with the music industry moving ever closer towards 100% digital distribution, people deserve to be reminded of the joy that can be had from putting a tape in a deck, or a stylus on a record, when the process of buying a music download takes pretty much all the soul out of buying music. When I buy something, I want to own it. I want to be able to hold it. When you buy a track from iTunes, you're lucky if you ever actually find the file on your hard drive. And if you do, what do you have? A load of metaphysical bits that don't actually exist. As impractical as an 8-track tape is in 2009, I'd rather have that than a joyless, DRM-laden AAC file that frankly sounds just as bad as a battered 8-track tape in its own way. (Even if I didn't have a player I'd be tempted to buy a DigiVom tape anyway, just for the novelty.) The difference being you can't hold the AAC file. I realise I'm perhaps preaching to the converted here, but even we seem to have all but given up on physical product. In fact the only one we've had this year was Uncivilized and Beytah's CD-R (which I still want a copy of, incidentally Brian…). Let's enjoy some physical audio action again.

Actually, maybe that is a real answer. Still, go watch that film if you can. Here endeth the post.

alot of people have remixed the original accapella version of suzanne vegas song, the most famouse but iir not the first remix was the dna one.
many years ago when i first got my bass back i recorded a 3ish minute noise, but due to my brothers sound card being low and the speakers acceptable, what sounded ok round his damn near blew the speakers when i got home.

fast forwards a few years (before seti killed my pc, nearly taking both my drives with it, the 1tb mp3 drive died a week later :( ) i installed the demo version of cubase LE that came with my G2.1u zoom board (i know i have a bass and thats a guitar fx but all my old stuff was done on my brothers gear and i didnt know they made a B2.1u till a few months later accuoutic one to but i digress) and you can guess the rest

the fx track wasnt beat matched or edited to fit, all i did was tone down the volume, but it still sounds like suzzane trying to sing during the silverstone GP

then after my pc died i kinda forgot i had done this as i hardly plug the drive in via a usb bridge for fear of it also dieng till ive backed up every thing important (i lost my porn as that was on the 1tb) then this week just before work on my ipod my remix came on at random.

snag alert (im shocked if any of you are still reading ive almost forgotten about what im typing about)
iTunes will blank the iPod once i insert it (if i allow itunes to run that is) as the songs were synced via the 1TB on my old pc and i had to re rip a fair chunk of my CD collection but only the tip of the iceberg (drive space issues mainly)
even though i can see the mp3's, part of apples DRM is to rename all files to aaaa.mp3 to zzzz.mp3 and this was an untitled track and i have quite alot of them and with 50 folders and over 15000 files to search through i havnt quite found it.

once i find it im going to whack it online somewhere for as long as i dare, might even stick it on my deadish solo project myspace site and send suzannes myspace a link and see how long till im asked to take it down ;)

if i find it ill post here

well
i have been toying with the idea of building myself a "live set-up"using plogue bidule and renoise,it should be used for my "breakcore/junglecore/drillcore"music

any1 tried building something for that purpose in plogue

the reason i want to use plogue over something like Pd,is that i really like to have the "nicer"interface,it helps me give a better overview

help me out Hardoff:)

Yes, my latest album, An Artifact Of Progress is now out on cassette only. In a purely regressive move I've decided to stick to magnetic tape for this one. You can get a copy for just £6.00 including P&P anywhere in the world.

To get a copy either message me or go to my blog and head for the Stuff For Sale page where you can contact me directly about it. It seems that I'm unable to insert Paypal buttons on either this site, my blog or Myspace these days - in fact, Myspace won't even let me link to the Digital Vomit blog now as it identifies it as a security risk…

Anyway, for your cash, you'll get 26 tracks and just over 85 minutes of music (did I mention it was a C-90?) The cassettes are chrome and have been dubbed in real-time from CD for better sound quality - I feel really old just typing that sentence…

This release is also the first on my own label, Startled Okapi! Recordings, (because as we all know, the world needs more vanity labels - if only for winding trolls up with) which will be concentrating on putting out physical stuff at irregular intervals, mostly my own stuff at first, but there may be a possibilty of some V/A compilations at some point.

Quantities of this are limited - limited mainly by how many blank tapes I have left (no more than 40 though)

I've never been there but have a leaflet a friend of mine who visited the museum brought me once. I have seen the website (http://www.narrenturm.at/), though… I'd write some blurb about it to convince people about the artistry and grace of the idea, but I'm busy being lazy, so I'll spare you my glaring prose.

The (general) idea is to make beautiful mutant tracks. as in WTF was that! (but so repelling and outlandish it's beautiful).

I'll try to hook up with the CockRockDisco dudes, so we can do it á la Dildonomicon.

To start it off you can send your stuff (links, files) to

ibn.batuta [at] gmail dot com

or drop them here:

http://soundcloud.com/isg/dropbox

some realated stuff:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vienna_General_Hospital#The_Narrenturm_.28Fool.27s_Tower.29

http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2004/sep/01/guardianfirstbookaward2004.gurardianfirstbookaward2

http://ineradicablestain.com/half_life.html

Feel free to help/contribute.

—Batuta Fat. I've been procrastinating over this for an inordinate amount of time and I just want to put these tracks to bed, so I decided to stop thinking about it and just get it out there. I just need to get the artwork done for it and I'll be good to go.

Now live... Go get it here: DVR047

What can I say? It's been an absolute joy compiling this compilation. Loads of rocking tracks of extremism, but despite the name I think it will surprise people in its depth and variety, as it's definitely not just a noisefest from start till finish.

Some shout-outs now:

Beytah - Designer of the awesome old school kult black metal cover, and the evil looking kult DV logo above. Beytah, you're a star!

Anyone new to DV with this release - What I've found is that there are lots of people who want to get involved in DigiVom who don't necessarily write in these forums, so putting together this comp was a great reminder that DV is more than the usual crowd who post here. A big thanks to all those people for getting involved… That said…

The usual crowd - A big thanks to everyone who gets involved regularly with DV projects, it's great to have that reliability (especially in the early days of compiling a comp when it looks like no one wants in) and it's great to have you all onboard

and finally, I don't want to single out any tracks as particular favourites, because I love them all really, but I have give a special shout out to:

ANE, Thee Crumb, and Keith (as Shanks Pony) for completely going against the grain of extremist noise and providing ambient tracks, that provide a breather from the noise while maintaining a sense of menace, and are excellent atmospheric tracks in their own right. If you guys are contributing to the ambient comp then it's going to be a good one for sure.

That's it, enough blabbing from me, go get it!

It's time for a new DV compilation (online E.P.),
one that will take a lot of effort of the contesters

The game (co-op, you will have to work in duo's)!

- 5 weeks long

- every week a different partner

- every week working on another 'track'

- me = moderator

DV members can send me (to join in) starting now!
(brianvanderbiest at hotmail dot com). Don't reply here, ony mail! Be aware that there are only 10 slots available.
So don't hesitate to long! After having 10 names I can't do nothing else then refuse you!

As soon as the spaces are taken the game begins! From then on everyone will receive his personal info by mail!
The rules of this can't be explained on the forum seen

1. Every duo will receive other info
2. The instructions you receive as a duo are confident.

Good luck

Hello.
I have completely remastered the album i put out 1n 2008 because i was never happy with the levels.
while doing this i found a bunch of tracks from the same period that i left off the collection and just forgot about, so i have included these, bringing the track total in at 18.
I have listened to the whole lot today and am very happy with it. It takes me back to a different time a few years ago, when i was unemployed, living alone in a tiny bedsit and spending all my time making music.
Whether or not u downloaded the original, please give this a listen :)

Thanks to Hardoff for hosting the original :)

Right it's up. It's a zip file because of the size.

just as soon as hosting gets squared away, this album will be available for download.

a new collection of outtakes and oddities from a DV alum who has appeared on the CBML series. this time out opting to use a pseudonym, our friend has provided us with a genuinely lovely little gem of outsider audio.

disregard the album title — this is some excellent music. i've spent a few months with these tracks and they continue to amaze and entertain.
