OK, I've got an idea for a new compilation, I reckon it's one we'll all dig...

So it's gone quiet here in the last week, time for a new idea I reckon, and I've had this one waiting for a while, see what you think.

I'll say upfront that this will be an MP3 release, because realistically it's just easier for all of us, and this is just a quick and dirty idea, so I don't want it to get bogged down before completion.

The theme is really simple. Basically I want tracks that are really fast. Stupidly fast. Nothing under 220 bpm and the faster the better. How you interpret this is up to you. I'd prefer to hear tracks that weren't just a big gabba 909 kick drum, but hey, if that's your thing, then go for it. I'd also they weren't just an "Extratone" blur of noise, but again, if you wanna explore that, then do. You can use samples, drum machines, synths, real instruments, whatever, it doesn't even have to have a proper drum beat, as long as it has the feel of being really fast.

Length: Under 5 minutes
Deadline: Wednesday 5th August 2009

Upload tracks to your own hosting, or use dropsend, yousendit, megaupload, rapidshare etc and email me a link.

Send tracks to hirekatsu {at} g mail dot com.

Please include track name, artist name, and bpm! If your track changes speed, that should be the maximum bpm, or a range if you prefer (so it might say 160 - 400 bpm). Yeah don't worry about this since I know this has been a pain for some people, I'll work out bpm on my end if I'm going to include it.

nice idea. i have an idea already (it doesn't even have to have a proper drum beat, as long as it has the feel of being really fast.
) - not sure if i can work out the bpm thou…. so might need some help there.

In light of the sad news about Ruairi, and the general inertia around these parts right now, I'm extending the deadline on this until April 1st. Basically, I'd rather people felt happy about contributing a good track, than feeling rushed to finish something when it's not fun.

well, i've finished a track for this and in theory it's 220bpm. Trouble is it isn't really that fast - there's an awful lot of 110bpm stuff as well. It's just been added to my myspace page so have a listen and see what you think. Kajagoogoo Recruitment Drive is the track in question.

Well, I'm not actually being that strict about what's in and out and at the moment (to be honest, no one's gone above about 230bpm yet), and Kajagoogoo Recruitment Drive is an awesome track (despite murdering one of my favourite synthpop tracks), so it's definitely in if you want to put it in. Tried to work something out for this but I
was never completely satisfied with the result so I'm out.

Don't understand how you guys sometimes do it…producing tracks

Hi everyone.

So the latest news on this is that I'm extending the deadline again for a little bit. Basically the quality of the tracks has been really high so far, but everyone's tracks are really short, so the overall comp length is only just over 20 minutes so far. When the quality is high it seems a shame to put out a really short comp, so I'm running it a bit longer to see if I can flesh it out a little more. Sorry for the delay, but it'll be worth it I promise :)

Yeah, that's a great track, fits the theme nicely. One thing though, can you send me an MP3 ripped at 320kbps? I know most people probably can't hear the difference between 192 and 320, but I've got the rest of comp here at 320, so it'd be nice to be consistent. Cheers :)

Erm, how are you making you tunes? At some point you've got some software that saves you stuff out as an MP3, well, I guess there are some settings in there somewhere that let you change the MP3 bitrate to 320kbps rather than 192kbps. But difficult to tell you exactly where to find those settings without knowing what the program is. Alternatively, you can send me your stuff as a wav file, and I'll rip it to MP3 at my end :)
